How to install a mini stop tap and washing machine?

Hello, I am just looking to get some advice as to how I would connect a washing machine to this water inlet pipe? I’m assuming a mini stop tap and then connect the washing machine hose to that? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, we live in a country town and can’t get a plumber out for a couple of weeks and have 2 toddlers and no washing machine!

It sounds like you’re on the right track. A plumber would typically attach a mini stop tap (also called a mini cistern cock) to the threaded copper pipe coming out of the wall, using thread tape to ensure a watertight seal. From there, your washing machine hose would screw straight onto the outlet of the stop tap, giving you a neat and convenient way to isolate the water at the wall when needed.

I need to advise that installing the stop tap is considered plumbing work, so you’ll need a licensed plumber to perform this connection for you.

Thank you so much Mitchell! We do have another mini stop tap installed in another bathroom we could use but neither the washing machine hose, nor the adaptor we purchased connects (as per pic). Would we just need another adaptor to join the two? Thank you so much again

Hi @ohp92,

Assuming the hose thread is 20mm and the thread on the stop cock is 15mm, a plumber would remove the adaptor that is in there currently and use a Brasshards 20 x 15mm Chrome Plated Brass Reducing Bush.

A plumber would then use some thread tape around the stop cock to ensure a tight connection between the adaptor and the stop cock.

They wouldn't put thread tape between the adaptor and the hose, as they have a conical washer that can be hindered by the use of thread tape.
