How to install fixed soccer goals?

Hi, I’m planning to install 2 in ground soccer poles for my back garden area, I have 2 questions how would I prop (stabilise the pole while it dries?) as it’s in the middle of no where and have nothing to screw too? Should I be using clamps and some timber? It’s circular so was worried about what to use. 

also to ensure that they both align so to speak. I’m on a quite a large block of land- the distance in between them is about 40 odd meters. Should I be using a string line?

Hi @tomo123,

The most common way to stabilise posts while the concrete sets is to use at least two stakes driven into the ground at roughly a 45-degree angle, secured to the post with timber or straps. Make sure the stakes are well driven and use a spirit level to ensure the post is perfectly vertical before the concrete sets. Check the posts periodically as the concrete begins to set; even a slight shift can be corrected if caught early.

 

For aligning both goals, a string line is a good start to check spacing and a straight line across the distance, but it won’t guarantee the posts are perfectly perpendicular to each other. A laser level can help with this, though over 40 metres, you may need to set it up in the early morning or late afternoon when the beam is easier to see. Another tip is to measure diagonals between corners if you’re marking out the goals to ensure they form a perfect rectangle and aren’t skewed. Check the posts periodically as the concrete begins to set; even a slight shift can be corrected if caught early.
