How to install vinyl flooring in the bathroom?

Dear community, 

We are thinking of installing the Gerflor self-adhesive vinyl planks over the tiles of our bathroom. However, I am still not sure about few things, and I'd really appreciate it if you can give me some directions.

• Is the vinyl we'd like to use suitable for over tile?
• I do not think the skirting tile would go well with the wood looking flooring, should I remove it or paint it? If I replace it, which type of skirting can go in the bathroom?
• Do you recommend to remove the toilet to place the planks?
• Can I block the drain? I mean laying the plank on top?

Thank you for sharing your question about vinyl flooring. One of our members has actually installed adhesive vinyl tiles in similar conditions (tiled flooring) and it came out fantastic. I suggest having a look at this discussion - D.I.Y. flooring using adhesive vinyl over tiles by @diy_hausdesigns. The Gerflor self-adhesive vinyl planks are rated for wet and dry areas. Please note that it can't be used inside the shower area itself. As a possible option, I propose thinking about attaching vinyl planks on the skirting tiles as well. But please note that I can't make any guarantees as to how long the vinyl tiles will last when installed vertically. My only other suggestion is to either remove or paint the skirting tiles.

In regards to the toilet, I propose using a cardboard template to make sure that your cutout for the vinyl planks is very precise. I don't recommend removing the toilet for this flooring revamp. As for the drain, it can't be blocked as the rules and regulations in your area require an exit for water should a flood occur inside that room. You'll need to cut out an exit point on the vinyl surface.
