How to box in wardrobe without removing cornice?

Hi, 

I am hoping to add framing and MDF down the side and across the top of this wardrobe.  I really don't want to remove the cornice and have some ideas about how I can scribe the MDF around the cornice, but checking if anyone has any tips or suggestions?

Your best bet will be to make a template of the cornice and wall first, then transfer that to your MDF. The easiest way is usually to cut a piece of cardboard to size, hold it in place, and carefully trim it until it sits neatly around the cornice. Once you’ve got that template fitting snugly, you can trace it onto your MDF board and cut it out with confidence.

Alternatively, you could cut back a section of your MDF to fit into the corner, hold it in place, and then use a scribing tool (or even just a pencil held steady against the cornice) to trace the profile directly onto the board before cutting.

The cardboard template method is often simpler and more forgiving, since you can test-fit and adjust without wasting material.
