How to attach Hills washing line to weatherboard?

hi,

I bought a Hills washing line without thinking of what it will attach too. The only space is this weatherboard wall I share with my neighbour.
I’ll need to ask a handyman to do this as I don’t have the tools myself so:

- I presume a kind of bracket will need to be made, what suggestions do you have to help me guide the handyman?

- Roughly how long do you think it would take to make and then assemble the line? (So I can price accordingly)

And yes, neighbour has given consent 🙂

For mounting your Hills washing line on a weatherboard wall, the main thing to remember is that the line’s brackets need to be fixed into solid timber, not just the weatherboard, because weatherboards alone aren’t strong enough to hold the weight and tension of a loaded line. 

You’ll first need to locate the studs behind the weatherboard, which are the vertical timber supports inside the wall, and check where they fall relative to where the line’s mounts need to go. Often, the studs won’t line up perfectly with the mounting points, so the usual solution is to attach a couple of lengths of timber horizontally across the wall, securing them directly into the studs. These horizontal boards provide a strong base for the washing line brackets. Once the boards are in place, the brackets can be fixed onto them, and then the washing line installed. For an experienced handyman, the whole process of installing the timber supports and then fixing the line would typically take a few hours. This method ensures the washing line is stable, safe, and won’t damage your weatherboards.
