How to install dishwasher?

Hi, I’ve bought a dishwasher and trying to install. The house looked like it was fairly set up for one already so the outlet hose and power are sorted. My question is the inlet hose. 
I know you’re supposed to turn off the water to attach but this has turned into a bigger issue than planned. There doesn’t seem to be any stop valves in the sink and turning off the mains requires turning it off for several properties. 
There’s already a dual valve installed - can I just attach the inlet hose directly? Or if I remove this cap without turning off the mains water supply, am I going to flood the kitchen? Photo for reference

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your dishwasher hose.

You've hit the nail on the head with this one. The dual outlet mini tap is the control for the whole thing. I propose turning the switch clockwise to shut the water off for both outlets. Place a tea towel underneath the cover cap as there will be a bit of residual water that will come out when you remove it. Attach your inlet hose to the tap outlet and make sure that it is firm and secure but not overly tight. Slowly turn the mini tap back on and observe for leaks. If there is a leak you may need to make it tighter or use plumber's tape to secure the connection.
