That type of damage is fairly common when the corner bead of a wall gets exposed. To repair it, start by chipping away any loose plaster or paint in the area with a scraper, removing anything that comes off easily so you’re left with a solid base. Next, use a scraper to apply plaster filler in thin layers, allowing each coat to dry fully before applying the next, gradually rebuilding the corner. Once the filler has set, sand the area with a sanding block and 180-grit sandpaper to shape the corner back into form. Apply a final skim coat of plaster filler over the repair and sand it back with 240-grit sandpaper to achieve a crisp, smooth finish. When the corner looks good, undercoat the area before applying your topcoat of paint to blend the repair seamlessly with the rest of the wall.
