How to lay crazy paving over concrete slab?

I have a standard outdoor area with concrete slab but i would love to give it the coastal crazy pave look. Doing this though will leave a lip due to the height of it onto the rest of the outdoor concrete paying eg.which goes around exterior aide of house... my question is what can I do to avoid a tripping hazard. I have dunsborough sandstone I was planning to do it with or do you think broken travertine will work better??

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Personally, I prefer the look of travertine pavers, but the choice really comes down to your own preferences in terms of aesthetic. Travertine also tends to be easier to maintain than sandstone as it’s denser, less porous, and more resistant to stains, while sandstone needs more frequent sealing and is prone to staining, algae, and fading.

If sandstone better suits your aesthetic, then there's no reason not to use it, but be aware that there will be additional maintenance.

How thick are the pavers you are thinking of using?

You could simply build up the soil around the perimeter of the paved area so there is a slight ramp up to it. Once the grass grows over, you would never even notice it.

Alternatively, you could dig out a narrow trench around the perimeter of your paved area, add some road base, compact it, then lay 200x100x50mm pavers in a colour of your choosing in line with the top of your crazy pavers, then backfill behind the border once installed. This will give some physical protection to the edge of your crazy pavers, and once backfilled, would remove any lippage that could be a tripping hazard.

Good morning @shadygrey

My feet tend to find those lips remarkably easy 🙂 If its there, I WILL somehow stub my toes. So yeah raising the area a little will cause a bit of a difference. I am also think the easiest and nicest look would be to raise the soil level next to the pavers. I would start a meter back from the edge and gently slope the soil, maybe spread soil and rake it in over several weeks so that grass grows up through it as you slowly smooth out the ramp.

I do like sandstone and I also like tarveltine sandstone tiles (If I have the right thing pictured in my mind) If I had to choose between them id go for the broken traveltine pavers as it may be smoother.
