A large cubby house with slide and sand pit for active kids built using treated Pine, exterior plywood and finished with an colourful paint job.
The project
The kids always wanted a tree house, so our only option was to build a cubby house. It sits in the middle of the backyard, so we wanted to make a feature point of it. The kids love it and now spend endless hours there every week.
Steps
Step 1
We started by talking to the neighbours, and they were ok with the idea, as they enjoy seeing kids being kids. Next we had a friend who came over to help us to dig the foundation holes as our soil is pretty compacted, and clear up some of the soil for the sand. Then it was time to concrete the posts and install the joists.
Step 2
We used exterior plywood for the flooring. It was like that for a few weeks and was already a success. Then the boys filled up the bottom with sandpit sand.
Platform was already a success.
Step 3
We assembled the walls on the floor, then lifted them into place.
Step 4
Roofing was on and it was time for the plywood for the walls.
Step 5
Once all the walls were on it was time to prime the plywood.
Step 6
Then the fun part - painting.
Step 7
Time to enjoy!
