How to patch door frame after carpet/laminate flooring removal?

Hi Bunnings Community,

At my property I removed the laminate flooring from living and carpets from bedrooms. I sanded and polished the hardwood flooring underneath.

I think that while the laminate and carpets were laid, the door frames were cut at the bottom.

The gap is almost 1cm.

Any help on how I can fill it?

I propose using your circular saw and cutting a 10mm x 100mm strip off a pine panel or plywood. Your goal is to make or find a piece of timber that is close enough to fill the gap. Insert the timber piece into the gap and trace the shape of the door frame with a pencil. I suggest using a coping saw to cut the shape and then sand it to perfection. I recommend putting a bit of Selleys liquid nails in the gap before pushing the cut out back into position. Fill the fine gap between the timber filler and the door frame with Parfix 500g Ready To Use Multipurpose Filler allow the filler to cure before sanding the surface once again. Clean the surface of sanding dust before priming and painting.

Thats a nice new floor 🙂 And @EricL 's step through is exactly what I would be doing. You just want to make it the same profile so you could use two pieces or more, tho bear in mind more pieces will result in more seen lines/joins. Id Go for one piece and use a coping saw. 🙂 A bit of practice but those saws are easy to use.

They call me the Paling Man 🙂

I use fence palings for so many things and even run them through the planer/thickness for dressed pine.

You need something around 10mm so timber very unlikely and even plywood that thickness will be hard to find.

To put that another way even if you did find plywood around that thickness you would have a whole sheet.

For what we are dealing with most stock is 12mm including fence palings - maybe not?

I went out to the workshop to have a look.

I have paling offcuts ranging between 10 - 12mm.

Assuming you have limited tools for this one off job I suggest the following:

Visit your local store.

Nick into the tool shop and buy a 6" steel rule, coping saw, coarse sandpaper and a couple of clamps.

I would also buy a hand saw.

Head down the trade end and find the fence palings.

Go through them with the steel rule and find a skinny one 10mm or close to that.

Back home use the handsaw to cut of off the paling and also to cut the long sides and coping saw for the end bit.
