How to fix other side of cladded fence?

Hi everyone,

Next door just put in this super ugly fence and im wondering if anyone has options for making it look ok! They used house cladding, so looks horrendous on our side! Any hints and tips appreciated! Its height goes up to 2.4metres at the highest point.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

I'd suggest attaching lapped palings to the fence frame. This will fully cover up the framework and conceal the back side of the fibre cement sheeting. Check out Things To Check Before Building A Fence - DIY At Bunnings to see an example of a lapped paling fence.

You'll have to attach some H3 Framing to the rails so that there are timbers that run flush with the posts.

How far back from the outside edge of the posts is the back of the fence rails?

I will be able to recommend a suitable timber and method of installation when you can let me know this measurement.

Once the rails are sorted, you can install the lapped palings over the top using How To Install Fence Palings as a guide.

thank you for your reply.

The outside edge of the posts to back of the fence rails is vastly different all the way down the fence. At some points at the bottom, its 70mm (as they have some type of metal bracket there) and the other end of the spectrum is 148mm. Most are between 95-110mm . I appreciate your help.

Hi @cdw1,

Considering the variation in gaps, it might be easier to face-mount some fence rails to the posts using Buildex® 14G x 100mm Class 4 Bugle Batten Screws.

If you add a rail to your side of the fence, in line with the rails on their side in terms of height, then you would be able to simply install your palings over the top, covering everything up.
