How to level front yard for planting?

Hello Team,

Please have a look at the pics of my frontyard. It is uneven and I would like to level it up with garden soil with a bit of rise. Would you please advise me how to level up and make it like a garden bed? The area is not straight as well, as seen in the pic which makes it harder for a novice like me.

How much additional height are you looking to add?

If it is only a small amount, you could likely use a flexible garden edge like this Icon Plastics 75mm x 10m Jarrah Garden Edge with Jack 270 x 20 x 3mm Garden Edging Pegs to hold it in place.

Another option is this Rola Pak 150mm x 2.8m (approx) Treated Pine Ezy Edge Garden Edging, which could be installed by digging a small trench, placing the edging in the trench, then backfilling with the excavated soil.

If you were looking to increase the height by a larger amount, 200mm or more, then timber sleepers would be the way to go. They can be cut to length and secured with sleeper pegs or sleeper posts, depending on the height required. Dealing with the slight bend would be tricker with sleepers, but you would just need to cut into shorter lengths so you can follow the bend more closely.

Once your border is in place, you can throw down some weed mat or geotextile membrane, then add some quality garden soil over the top.
