How to repair peeling textured paint on brick?

The render? on our brickwork is starting to crack and peel and we are about to start repainting so not sure the best course to repair. I'm not 100% sure if its render or a textured paint as it is reasonably thin. Will I need to chisel it all back and start again, or can I just patch over it? This is happening in multiple spots around the house but the below photo is to give a general idea of the situation.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It definitely looks like a textured paint like this Dulux Medium Texture Exterior Paint rather than render.

The main thing you will need to do is ensure that any of the loose flaking material is removed. If the paint is still well adhered, it should be fine to just paint over it. In any areas where it is peeling like above, I'd suggest using a paint scraper to peel it back till there is no more lifting paint, then sand the edges of the patch to remove hard edges that can show up in your coating.

You should then scrub the surface with warm, soapy water to remove any dirt or grime that could affect adhesion.

Considering you are planning to paint, you could either use textured paint or use this Polyfilla Exterior Brick and Render Masonry to render the patch and add some texture, then paint over the top with your choice of external paint.
