How to rejuvenate wooden floors?

Our house came with lovely solid wood floorboards, however they’ve been pretty obviously sun damaged in some of the bedrooms. 
1. Is there a way to restore them to their original colour?

2. Apart from keeping the windows covered, is there something like a clear UV film that we could apply to the glass to prevent future damage? Took a look but Bunnings only seems to have tinted film which doesn’t suit as the rooms get too dark in winter.

Hi @kyap,

You’ll likely need to sand the floors back to remove the sun-damaged surface and restore the original timber colour. We hire floor sanders for this purpose. Once sanded, apply a polyurethane floor coating such as Cabot’s CFP. These finishes are designed to protect against wear and are much more resistant to fading than older coatings, so you shouldn’t need to add a film to your windows.

As for UV films, most products that significantly reduce UV also darken the glass. I’m not aware of any completely clear options that provide strong UV protection without reducing light levels, so sanding and resealing your floors is your best long-term solution.
