How to install sun shade?

Hi there,

I am struggling to find the best way to install a sun shade/privacy screen in the open section. Looking for idea and tips. A few observation I have are:

1. I am thinking to install the shade from the outside for a cleaner look but I don't have anything to attach the shade to once I hit the gutter. 
2. What is generally best practise? Do people install from the inside or outside? Considering there is rain that hits during windy days. Wanting to avoid wood rot (if that is even possible with sun shades)?

3. I am thinking to buy some hooks and running a rope across the area, then using some clips to attach to the rope. Thoughts on this or is there a better way?

Thanks for sharing your question about installing your sunshade. Since there is no anchor point available near your gutter, I suggest installing 70 x 35mm Outdoor Framing H3 Treated Pine - 2.4m on your existing timber posts. I propose using an angle bracket at the very end near the down pipe so that it is safely anchored to the post as well. The H3 treated pine is made for outdoor use and can withstand harsh weather and resist insect attacks. It will not rot for a very long time.

I recommend using Zenith 10 - 8 x 75mm Galvanised Countersunk Rib Head Timber Screws to anchor the treated pine to the post. If you wish for the wood to blend in it can be painted the same colour as your posts. I suggest using Carinya 40 x 40 x 40 x 2mm Galvanised Reinforcing Angle Bracket or similar to hold the treated pine to the post at the end. I suggest using Zenith 10G x 30mm Galvanised Type 17 Countersunk Head Timber Screws for the angle bracket section.

I propose using hooks along the treated pine and rope at the bottom to produce tension and have the sunshade installed nice and flat.
