How to build an outdoor screen?

Hi,

I want to make a outdoor garden screen similar to the one in attached pics. I am not able to make it myself but have a great handyman who can make it for me.

My questions:

1, I want to purchase the materials - what will I need? 

2, Does anyone know if there are instructions anywhere online. The chap who made the one in attached pics did say it was simple enough but I would like some sort of a guide!

3, I would like to use wood that ages to a grey colour and does to need to be treated. Suggestions?

n.b. I do not know the exact height and length however am told that all the timber was bought from Bunnings.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about building an outdoor garden screen.

You can easily make a similar looking fence using the following materials:

• Post - 100 x 100mm 2.4m Post H4 Treated Pine Wet CCA - This will need to be buried at least 600mm into the ground and a concrete footing placed around it.
   
• Screening (choice No. 1) 42 x 19mm 2.7m Merbau Pre-Oiled Solid Screening 
   
• Screening (choice No. 2) 42 x 42mm 2.7m Pre-Oiled Merbau Solid Screening (thicker)
   
• Suggested screws to use are the Zenith 14G x 75mm Galvanised Hex Head With Seal Type 17 Timber Screws - 25 or similar.

Once the Merbau has seasoned it will turn into a silver-grey finish. But it's much better if you were to maintain the Merbau colour by oiling it as it will last much longer rather than leaving it unprotected.
