The project
Our old glass-topped table exploded last summer and the frame was useless. We wanted a new, modern-looking, sturdy and affordable replacement. I wanted to have some creative input also; not just assemble a flat pack. After looking around I came up with what you can see in the pictures. Nothing complicated, easy to make step-by-step. Looks a million bucks when you finish it!
Steps
Step 1
Set up your work horses, evenly-spaced apart, then place your board on top leaving enough material at one end to remove a 400mm length.
Step 2
After measuring and drawing a straight line 400mm from one end, take your circular saw and cut along that line. This will become your floating mini condiment table.
Step 3
Sand all sides then apply a coat of varnish. Sand all sides once again and apply a second coat of varnish. Repeat until you are happy with the finish. (The sun will show up areas of uneven coverage).
Step 4
After the varnish has dried well, place the underside of your table upwards on the work horses and attach the legs using your drill and 10Gx35mm screws. No need to pre-drill holes.
Step 5
Now simply attach your clear rubber bump stops (feet) to the underside of your floating mini condiments table using the screws supplied with them.
Step 6
Now flip your floating condiments tray over and position your handles at each end. Using your 4mm drill bit, drill holes and secure your handles with the bolts provided with the handles.
Step 7
Now just position your new 6-seater table with floating condiments table on top in the perfect position. Crack yourself a cold beer and stand like a triumphant caveman that has just discovered fire and beat your chest proudly! You are done.
