How to fix Gyprock damage?

Hi. I had gyprock delivered through an online order and the top sheet is damaged from the transport tie down straps. It’s over 120km one way so I’d rather find a solution rather than have Bunnings send a single sheet out as a replacement. See image- recommendation for the best way to repair please. Another sheet, when I cut it had a hollow section from the casting - see image. Again, recommendation please.

Thank you for reaching out.

I'm sure you are aware, but I just thought I'd mention that you are entitled to reach out to the store and have it replaced if you would like to although the long distance is an understandable reason to want to avoid this.

With that being said, the edges of plasterboard sheets are pretty easy to damage, so this is not an uncommon scenario. Any hollows or squished parts can just be patched with base coat plaster, then topped with topping compound, like you would as part of Gyprock's recommended 3 coat jointing system shown in Gyprock | The Red Book. If the squished edge is being used against another sheet, you would be using a plaster jointing system anyway, so the slight depression would be filled as part of this process. As long as the paper is intact, then there is no real cause for concern.

If there is a void in the sheet, you can just cut it out and patch it as shown in How To Patch A Plaster Wall.

Thanks Jacob, the sheet has been damaged in 3 places by the straps, 2 ends and centre. The one has gone past the sunken zone and is a bit proud of the surface. I think I should cut that piece out and do a repair. I’ll also fill the void as suggested.

I do appreciate your comment about getting a new sheet, but asking for a 240km round trip when the initial delivery fee was 2 bits of nothing basically means one shouldn’t be doing DIY.

If it helps at all, the recess along the top and bottom edge will be covered by the jointing compound, skirting and/or cornice all depending on placement and orientation of the sheet. The dent in the middle of the sheet can easily be swiped across again with the jointing compound if deep or top coat if shallow.
