How to plan a small bathroom renovation?

Hi there

I bought my place a couple of years ago and am looking to update the small bathroom. There is a seperate toilet so that is not included just the main bathroom. The dimensions are (142cm x 250cm). The current set up includes a shower area across the back (140cm x 89cm), a vanity (90cm x 46cm x 80cm) and a towel rack. 

Looking for ideas on what might be possible to refresh the space and maximise its usability. I would love to transform the shower into a shower/bath combo but not sure if that is realistic. 

Photos are attached and any guidance on where to start with this project would be really appreciated!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Converting your current shower into a shower–bath combo should be possible, but it would involve fairly major alterations. Because the waterproofing and tiling in a wet area are all integrated, changing from a walk-in shower to a combined bath and shower means the existing waterproofing membrane would need to be removed and redone. The floor waste and plumbing will also need to be repositioned or deepened to accommodate a bath waste outlet, which sits lower than a standard shower drain. These changes would require a licensed waterproofing contractor and plumber, so it’s usually considered a full gut and rebuild rather than a simple modification. If you’re open to the extra cost and time, it’s a great opportunity to fully modernise the space, but it’s important to plan for it as a complete renovation rather than a partial update.

If you decide to retain your existing shower, there are still excellent ways to make the bathroom more functional and modern. 

Replacing your current vanity with a wall-hung vanity will open up more visible floor space, making the room feel larger. 

A mirrored shaving cabinet can increase your storage without adding much bulk.
