How to keep recently oiled deck clean?

I oiled my deck recently. Having done it over last 2,3 years, I followed the usual regimen of deck cleaner followed by drying and oiling next day. Didn't do sanding.

This time I have noticed the deck is attracting marks and stains rather easily. This is in the form of marks from dragged furniture (not overly heavy), shoe marks from shows not overly muddy, etc.

Please advice what might have went wrong?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Can you advise what specific products you used for your deck? Were they the same products you have used before?

The shine on the timber makes it look like a varnish more than an oil, which is strange.

Could you maybe take some photos under natural lighting during the day, just so we can see what the shine looks like?

Sanding the decking boards back and starting again would guarantee you success, but there might be another solution if we can work out why exactly this new coating is acting the way it is.

I will wait to hear back from you before assisting further.

Hi @fazalw,

It is likely worth starting by giving your deck a good clean to see if that alleviates any of your issues.

Check out How To Clean a Deck for some guidance on this process.

It seems like the coating has created a film on the surface of the decking boards instead of soaking into them like you'd typically want it to. A good cleaning might alleviate some of the issues, so it is a good first step.
