How to restore damaged aluminium window frames?

I recently purchased an old property and most of the window frames are old aluminium frames that have been oxidised over the years.I will need to change the windows at some stage so don't want to replace the frames yet but it is an eyesore to see these oxidised frames. Is there a DIY option to restore these window frames cost effectively.

So some years ago, I moved into a house I had built and the day before, someone tried to break in damaging the aluminium frame. The insurance sent someone out to fix it and apparently there is a special Aluminium filler, a bit like those used by car body repairers (it has the same expansion/contraction properties as aluminium which means that it won't crack off). You could use this to fill any corrsion and sand it flat then spray it a bit like a car body repair. I should add that I never had an issue after the repair.

If you are looking to restore the original finish and shine of the aluminium frame, I suggest engaging the services of an aluminium professional. They have the skills and knowledge to properly restore the surface and seal it properly. It is not something I would suggest doing as a D.I.Y. project as it involves specialized polishing heads and procedures.

Just a friendly reminder that working with glass is dangerous as an accidental hit with a tool or when too much force is applied could make the glass shatter and cause injury. Please remember to wear personal protection such as form fitting rubber gloves and goggles.

However, another option open to you is to paint the aluminium frames to give it a fresh new look. The general process is to sand and prepare the aluminium surface. Once properly sanded make sure to clean the surface and remove all the sanding dust. The glass and outer frame are then masked to prevent over spray. The primer is then applied and allowed to cure before putting on the top coat.
