How to glue vinyl flooring down in corner?

Hi all,

I’ve noticed some minor water damage on some vinyl flooring in our kitchen (section closest to our sink, water sometimes splashes down when doing dishes too enthusiastically). The corner of the flooring which butts up against the sink cupboard has started to lift, and I was wondering if there are any good products to glue this back down as a temporary solution?

There’s only a very small gap between the flooring and the cupboard structure so I’m thinking maybe a superglue which can be injected into this gap and then weigh the plank back down?

From the photos you can see it’s about a 5mm lift in the corner.

Hi @lm4,

If you lift the flooring up, can you make enough of a gap at the edge to fit something narrow down the side of the vinyl?

If so, then you might be able to use something like this Loctite 5g Precision Liquid Super Glue, which is a low viscosity liquid glue, with a narrow nozzle for getting into tight spots.

Alternatively, you could cut a small cross in the vinyl with a utility knife, ensuring you wear gloves and a long work shirt to protect against lacerations, then lift a corner, pour that same glue through the vinyl, then glue the cross back together and put a weight on the vinyl to hold it down.

Thanks for your response! I could probably shimmy something into the gap (about 1mm) and pry it open - was trying to avoid lifting it too much. The nozzle on the glue you’ve sent through looks pretty thin so I might try to just get it in the small gap and hopefully it’ll run to the surface underneath the panel?

Hi @lm4,

It is a liquid glue, so it should flow down beneath the vinyl quite easily with gravity alone.

You can always clean up any errant glue with a damp cloth quite easily.

Just patched it up this afternoon and it’s worked great! Only had to squeeze the glue along the edge of the lifted sides and it must’ve run down enough on the bottom side to get a good hold. Left it with a weight for a couple of hours and it’s holding up well. Cheers!
