How to add tree stakes?

Hi 

I have recently planted a young yellow pom pom and it is around 1.2m tall but as it is growing, the trunk is weak, therefore it has started to lean to the side and I am worried that with the rain and wind, it can easily break.

I am planning to used a stake to keep it straight.

1) Is there any specific stake that I need to use? How tall does it need to be?

2) I have seen that they put the stake very close to the trunk but I am worried it can damage the roots? any thoughts?

3) Any further tips?

Thanks for sharing your question about putting support stakes on your yellow pom-pom. In order to avoid the roots of your young pom-pom tree, I suggest placing the stakes at least 500mm from the main stem. I propose placing three stakes of Growies 25 x 25 x 1800mm Hardwood Garden Stake - 6 Pack in a triangular position all with the same distance from each other. I then recommend using Jack 50mm x 10m Plant Tie Jute Webbing to hold the main body in position. You can position support in the middle and near the top of the tree stem. 

The Jute Webbing can be held in place using heavy duty staples. My best advice is not to overtighten the support web on the tree. I've placed an image below to give you an idea of how it can be done.
