How to clean pencil marks on wall?

Hi I need help removing pencil marks left on wall for a few yrs.

Pencil marks made to line up door handle Front door. Been there a yr.

Black metal airer lent against wall and has left black marks.

I've used sugar soap on the metal marks but haven't tried anything on the pencil marks. I'm using a light paint so I have to get them off or they will bleed through.

Hi @sue62,

I'd start by trying an eraser. They are usually pretty good for removing pencil marks regardless of what they are on, but being so old, it might struggle a bit, but certainly worth a try.

If this doesn't work, grab some 120-grit sandpaper and sand the pencil marks off. This will definitely do the trick.

Another option is to buy a small pot of water based primer that Bunnings sell for about $10. you then simply lightly load up your brush (small one as you are only covering a small blemish) then start over what you are looking to cover and paint outward from it feathering the paint out so there isn't a distict end towhere you painted, leave that to dry and if you aren't happy with the coverage, do the same again but feathering slightly further out. let it dry and then paint as required. you shouldn't be able to see anything. ( just painted three rooms and used this technique) I also had a situation where my wife decided to change the hanging painting in one room and after having painted and got everything looking great, I had to remove two screws, fill and paint. using this technique, I was able to do all this and use a mini roller to just cover the area I had primed (again feathering out the rolled area) and you can't see a thing!

Thanks I will try that feathering technique also when painting an area that's been plastered but I don't want to do the entire wall.
