How to lay a concrete slab for a shed?

Hello. Im in the process of laying a slab for a small shed in the backyard. Ive boxed and layed reinforcement. What is the recommended depth for a slab? Can you also suggest a mix that would do the job. Ive attached a picture of current progress. Thanks for your help. Appreciated. Stephen

Thanks for sharing your question about your concrete slab. Can you please tell us the size of your frame and how tall the frame is? We can then calculate the amount of concrete that will fit into your slab frame. The depth of the slab is dependent on what you'll be putting on it. But it's safe to conclude that a thicker slab means that it will be able to support more weight. My best advice is to make sure that you build a fall on the slab so that water does not pool in the middle of it.

Nice work getting your shed slab boxed and reinforced @StephenBrookes. For a typical backyard shed around 3m x 3m, the recommended slab thickness is about 100mm. If you plan on placing anything heavy inside, like machinery or a ride-on mower, you could increase that to 120–150mm for extra strength.

Standard Concrete Mix is suitable for your slab. Ensure you invite a mate around as you'll need one on the mixing whilst you are spereading out the concrete. It would be a big job for one person.

You will need 0.170 cubic metres of concrete for a 100 mm slab over 1.7 m² @StephenBrookes. This is roughly 20 × 20 kg bags of premix concrete.
