How to build timber shelves?

I am wanting to build 2 shelves that Bunnings will need to cut to size for me. I am wondering what timber/plywood to use. The first one needs to be 1095x470mm and will it on top of a wardrobe and extend to the wall. It will therefore have support both sides and near the centre where it will touch the top of the wardrobe. I have attached a photo.

The second shelf I will mount on brackets in my laundry area, above my dryer (heat pump) and needs to be about 790 x 350. I am happy to paint the wardrobe one but the one in the laundry I want the warmth of timber (coastal vibe).

For your shelves, using a melamine chipboard is likely the most appropriate choice, as it’s stable and cost-effective for this kind of project. For the timber shelf, you could look at Multi-use panels.

However, please note that the in-store team may not be able to do precise cuts on panels. They can usually cut panels close to the correct length, but are unable to cut small panels to sizes such as 790 x 350mm. You may need to consider cutting the shelves yourself or having a handyperson assist with that.
