How to dog-proof outdoor lounge?

Good afternoon, hope its a good time to alert all workshop members to come up with an idea to keep a LARGE KELPIE of our outdoor setting?

Norman is nearly 5 and trust me, beyond retraining, so after 10 mths or so of hubby putting the rain cover on, I need an idea that is user friendly, not dog !

Something that fits the aesthetic style we are going for, doesn't stand as obvious, & can be easily removed and put behind or underneath the lounge or similar.

I propose looking at the following covers - The Ultimate Flooring Multi Purpose Rubber Mat and the Splendid Living Sofa Cover Quilted Couch Covers Lounge Pet Protector Slipcovers latte. The rubber mat of course is the stronger of the two, but it will need to be rolled up if you wish to remove it from your outdoor lounge. The slipcover is easier to handle and will need to be held in place with bulldog clips to prevent it from being yanked away. It is technically possible to build a folding timber cover for the lounge, but it will be bulky and not so easy to hide.

I mustn't have have worded my question clearly, I don't want any cover on the lounge, except when it rains, I want to see it and use it as the $2,000 outdoor setting that I love.

I was thinking of a "hack" . One thought I had was lengths of bamboo painted grey and tied together with some twine or similar that wouldn't be easily seen, is uncomfortable for Norman and easy to remove and put back on when needed.

I'm sure someone has an even better idea , that's not too hard to do either.

I was thnking of a tarp and a blanket sewn together but then when I re-read you wish I realised your husband has been doing that already.

So option 2

Think of the timber seats people have to sit in in the bath, the ones that span the bath tub so you dont have to get all the way in and all teh way out.

Taking that idea, you could make a three slat or even for slat larger size to fit across the width of the arm rests of your lounge, Its only there to deter your doggo from jumping up on the lounge, so you could go one slat, one slat gap, then one slat and so on. These could be picked up easily and dropped behind the lounge in question. I would make them from pine and paint them to help prolong their life.

That’s a clever idea, @vickilee211. We do have pre-made lattice panels, such as the Lattice Makers 1800 x 900mm Black Bamboo Half Raft Screen Panel, which might suit your concept nicely. Could you please let us know the length and width of your lounge’s seating area? That would help us suggest options that would fit best.

As for keeping Norman off the lounge, sometimes a combination of strategies works well. Providing a comfy dog bed nearby, perhaps with a blanket or cushion he loves, can make it more appealing for him to rest there instead. Pairing that with your bamboo “discourager” could help reinforce that the lounge isn’t his spot. You might also try rewarding him when he chooses his own bed over the lounge to help build the habit.
