How to add shelves to walk-in pantry?

I can't find any pre drilled (with holes) melamine sheets for internal walk in pantry. Any other ideas for putting shelves up in here? I want it to look 'schmick' so pref not just cut mdf/particleboard.

It's rather narrow, so the shelves will need to be 300mm or less.

(I'm still in the process of repairing the walls after removing the old shelving, which was stuck on with a million nails AND liquid nails!)

If you are after just plain open shelves, it is possible to build it out of plywood and melamine panels. These panels can be put together to give you more shelves which technically can be anchored to the studs inside the wall. The other option is to put in narrow cabinetry and combined with open shelves. I've placed a sample image below to give you an idea of what it could look like. The cabinets are based on the Kaboodle wall cabinets series which are 320mm deep and come in flat pack default sizes. The shelves at the top are custom built from Specrite 1800 x 600 x 18mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel, this is something you'll need to build from scratch yourself or ask cabinet maker to do it for you. The addition of LED lights under the shelves will give the area a nice afterglow.

The only change that will need to be applied to your pantry is the modification of the door. It will need to open outward in either a single panel or in a split foldaway manner

Generally speaking, its basically just open shelves that travel from one end to the other, smaller shelves can be incorporated in the build or custom designs that you would like to put in. Please give me some time to draw up a sample image. As soon as I finish, I'll post it here.

Thank you, Eric, but I wasn't clear in my previous question. I don't really want a basic design drawing... What plywood? What panels? How would you fix them to each other and to the wall?

The materials I was referring to are the following:

These panels can all be cut down to size and assembled as shelves in whatever configuration you might want. They can be put together using standard Zenith 10 - 8 x 75mm Galvanised Countersunk Rib Head Timber Screws - 50 Pack or similar. The shelf assembly can be anchored to your wall using Hafele 23 x 23mm Angle Bracket - 20 Pack. Some of the panels can be painted and stained while the melamine panels provide a tough durable surface straight away.

Hi Eric would you be able to use the same materials for a countertop in walk in pantry also? No cupboards underneath just open shelves and countertop for appliances. Would it bear enough load wise?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Generally speaking, any of the materials Eric mentioned would be fine for use as a countertop, but they are not really the main consideration when you are looking at the load-bearing capacity. The method in which they are supported is going to be more important than the materials. In saying this, I wouldn't be using anything below about 15mm thick for a benchtop as they tend to get too flexible to support them in a simple and aesthetically pleasing way.

Generally speaking, a floor-mounted cupboard is the most common support for a countertop, but a countertop (or shelf) can also be supported using things like shelf brackets, timber cleats or furniture legs, depending on the situation. The important thing is that the load on that countertop is transferred into a suitable frame or supporting structure, oftentimes the framing or structure that makes up your wall.

If you can give us some details about your specific project, we could certainly have a look at how best to support the benchtop.

Would Kaboodle wall cabinets support a benchop if to be used as base cabinets ? Thnaks

Yes, you can use a benchtop over the wall cabinets. Please note that the benchtop can't overhang too far from the edge of the wall cabinet. For example, the Kaboodle wall cabinet is 320mm deep with the door included. The benchtop therefore can be 345 deep but can't be more than that as it begins to interfere with accessibility and for walking room around the area.
