Hi,
I would like to replace our deck posts for the purpose of supporting a fly-over roof structure above the deck. How can I attach the bearers to the posts? You'll see in the picture attached that the builders notched the post to accept the double 290x45 bearers (leaving only 20mm of post), but I wouldn't want to do this with a post that continues up to support a roof.
Can you use something like a joist hanger in this situation? Would need to cut the bearers down to length obviously. I come across these brackets in NZ that would do the job, but do they meet Australian standards? https://www.bunnings.co.nz/bowmac-beam-support-hot-dip-galvanised-b109_p0338087
Thanks in advance.
