How to install gas bottle regulator?

I bought a new regulator for my barbecue but now, whenever I turn the gas on it shows empty on the gauge, so I press the gauge down and it reads ‘low gas’ even though it is a full bottle, and then as soon as I release my thumb from the gauge, it turns off again

  

. I haven’t used one of these regulators before so I assume I am missing something very simple… but what?. Help!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jt101. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about gas safety gauges.

The first thing I note would be that "The gauge is to be read after the gas cyclinder has been in use for atleast 10 minutes". Have you run the BBQ for 10 minutes before checking the gauge? 

Is gas flowing through to your BBQ? If so, I would have your BBQ and when you are done, check the gauge to see if it needs to be refilled before the next use. Let us know if the gas is not flowing through to your BBQ, as that suggest the safety valve has been activated. Here are the instructions for the gauge.
