How to to securely connect gutter to outside wall?

Hi

First timer poster. We have a new build which we moved into 9 months ago. 

Periodically when it's extremely windy, we've heard a banging sound as something gets caught by strong gusts outside our bedroom window. Naturally, we tend to hear it only at night and it's proved elusive to locate at night and to remember to investigate in daylight!

We've worked out that the guttering above the window is not connected to the rendered wall at all. The colourbond roof is attached by flashing (just visible on the picture) but whereas other gutters are sealed and affixed to the walls this one catches the wind, flaps and bangs/vibrates. 

We're on a hill and a little exposed on a corner block. The guttering is around 2m long from where it connects to a corner connection and then goes round the side of the house. 

We could request that the builder comes to remedy this as it's evidently something that should have been done when first built but (based on past similar requests) this is likely to be a protracted and awkard argument so it's probably going to be easier to just do ourselves. 

A 2-part question:

1. What sort of sealant/caulk would be need to use to reliably fix seal this and fix it to the rendered wall and will this be sufficient to hold it in place? 

2. Do we need to have some sort of additional protection (whether extra sealant or something else) to the render where above where the sealant will connect?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

I'd suggest you start by applying a nice thick bead of roof and gutter silicone in a colour of your choice between the gutter and the wall. This will serve three purposes. It will seal the gaps at the end of the gutter, help to hold the gutter against the wall and act as a buffer that will deaden the impact if there is still some movement.

If you try this and you still find there is enough movement to cause banging against the house, then you would need to look at adding an additional gutter bracket that is closer to the wall. This bracket will greatly reduce the movement of the gutter and in combination with the silicone, it should stop the vibrations and banging.
