How to install a dishwasher in laundry of a rental?

Hey, we are moving into a rental for a bit and one of the things we want to do is give our old Smeg SA663X dishwasher one last run before it is permanently retired. Unfortunately our rental does not have the space or plumbing for the dishwasher to be in kitchen so we are looking at putting it into the laundry. We have worked out a drainage solution but are trying to work out the best way to connect the water inlet. We have a cold water tap (see images) which will need to feed the dishwasher and a washing machine, and either the dishwasher or washing machine will likely need an extension hose because the layout of the laundry means they will need to be on opposite sides of a very dated vanity. The taps are very old and we're not sure the best set up, and we can't really make changes to the plumbing because it's a rental. I'm looking for advice on the best way to split the tap supply and also any advice on extending the hose for the dishwasher or washing machine. Thanks 🙂

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @kylaetoile. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about connecting a dishwasher.

You’ll just need to double-check the connector size on your cold water tap and on your washing machine and dishwasher hoses, but typically you can use a Boston ¾" washing machine Y-hose adapter. This fitting allows you to connect two appliances to the same tap, which is perfect for your setup.

When it comes to hose length, rather than using an extension hose (which adds extra joins and potential leak points), it’s much better to replace the hoses entirely with longer ones. You can usually find them in 2 m, 3 m, and 4 m lengths, which makes it easy to run them neatly around your laundry without strain on the fittings.

That’ll give you a much more secure and reliable setup, especially in a rental where you can’t modify the plumbing.
