Why is my Ozito Pressure Washer cutting out?

My brother bought me the Ozito 1800W 2300PSI High Pressure Water and demonstrated how to use it effectively. This was at my parent's house. But, when I brought it home and connected everything, turned on the dial, it starts, then stops after a second. If I try to turn it on again, the power does not start at all.

I have run water through the unit without the pressure hose attached with the power off for a few minutes, then reconnected and tried again. The garden hose was on a caddy, so when removed, I removed the kinks.

The hose at the tap end does leak a little bit. I have attached a picture for reference.

Also, I went to a neighbour, tried it there, and the unit turned on. There was no leakage from the tap end, but there was a significant amount where it joins the unit. And it seemed loose. The water came out, but at a very low pressure.

There’s a bit to unpack here, Nick (@sera2775). The first thing to address is the fitting where the o-ring has snapped. That will need to be replaced, or you can just replace the entire connector with a new push-fit (click-on) type fitting, which is usually the simpler option. However, that broken o-ring isn’t likely the main reason the pressure washer is cutting out. A small leak at the tap or hose end usually won’t stop the unit from running, as long as there’s still a steady water flow reaching it.

Once you’ve replaced that fitting, double-check your hose for kinks or restrictions. Turn on the water at the tap and make sure there’s a strong, full flow of water coming through the hose before connecting it to the machine. Then reconnect the hose, turn the water back on fully, and allow the water to flow through the washer for a few seconds before switching on the power.

When you turn the power on, the unit will often start briefly and then stop again. That’s normal, it’s the pump pressurising and then going into standby mode. It will only engage and continue running when you squeeze the trigger on the spray lance. If you’re turning it on without pressing the trigger, it may seem like it’s cutting out, but that’s how it’s designed to work.

Once you’ve sorted the o-ring and ensured a good water supply, try turning the water on, powering up the machine, and then pulling the trigger on the lance. If the motor kicks in and maintains pressure when you do that, it’s functioning as intended. If not, let me know exactly what happens next, and we can go from there.

Regarding the fitting being loose on the machine and water existing at the join, I suspect you haven't clicked the fitting on far enough. Sometimes they can give a single click and leak profusely, but they just need to be pushed on further, which can take a bit of force.
