How to replace kitchen sink?

hello! 

we are wanting to give our kitchen a little facelift. Unfortunately a new build is not on the list for this year. Attached are photos of our sink we are wanting to replace. Current benchtop is laminate/wood and sink is currently measuring at around 1230 x 470. We are wanting to replace it with a single larger sink and side drainer however it would work out being smaller. Is this possible or am I crazy? Lol we will be painting the bench top with dulux renovation range or the rust-oleum benchtop kit. Thanks!!

It is technically possible to replace your sink with a single bowl single drainer sink. For example, you can use the Single Bowl Sink With Drainer Right Hand Bowl or reverse. The issue is that there will be a gap left of about 450mm to fill in. Generally speaking, the gap can be filled in with a Specrite 1200 x 600 x 18mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel. It will need to be cut to size, glued and screwed as well as painted all over with a sealer before being fixed into place.

It will stand out, and it will be seen, but I would like to suggest an alternative. If your benchtop area is not very large, I propose looking at changing the whole benchtop with a Specrite 2200 x 600 x 26mm Timber Multi Use Pine Panel. It is an affordable alternative and can be totally sealed for kitchen use. If you can give me the me the outside measurements of your benchtop, I can calculate how many panels you'll need and how they can be joined together. 

However, if you feel that this is outside your current budget, I suggest staying with your current sink and gathering more resources in order to carry out a proper makeover.
