How to mount vacuum charger inside laundry?

I'm wanting to attach a Dyson vacuum mount onto the inside of a cabinet. The backboard is basically as thin as cardboard and about 1-1.5cm gap distance from the plasterboard wall behind so doesn't seem like a very sturdy option. I think that means I need to attach to the right hand side wall. The actual cupboard frame is 13mm and then I think there is another 10-15mm gap to the wall that is covered with a cover panel at front. I'm not sure if I should just use chipboard screws (how long?) or if something like a spring toggle wall anchor is a better bet? Vacuum weighs 3.5kg and then presume a little more with the mounting too.

Can you please tell us the Dyson model that you have or perhaps give us the measurements of the mounting appendage that the vacuum uses? I'm sorry but I am not familiar with that cabinetry design you mentioned. If the cabinet has chipboard in it, I propose using chipboard screws such as the Zenith 6G x 18mm Stainless Steel Long Thread Countersunk Head Timber Screws (please check wall thickness before you purchase).

If you are still a bit apprehensive to anchor directly to the wall, I suggest sticking a flat piece of timber either in pine or MDF to the right-hand side wall. It does not have to be very thick piece of timber, but it does need to be stuck to the wall using Selleys 350g Heavy Duty Liquid Nails. The Dyson mount can then be attached above the flat piece of timber.

I suggest calling the cabinets manufacturer to get more details about the cabinets wall composition and its's thickness. I'm afraid hollow wall anchors will not work with the cabinet especially if the walls are only 3 to 5mm thick.

Definitely don't mount the wall plate to the rear wall. It's simply too light and thin. Simply use these 16mm countersunk wood screws in to the right side wall. If you have a little bit of double sided tape, use this to temp hole the plate to the wall. Then drill a 2mm pilot hole into each of the 3 fixing points and then drive the screws in.

Hi @boscage,

IKEA backs are usually Masonite.

If you prefer to use the back for storing the vac and if the unit is not fixed to the wall and can be pulled forward I suggest the following and I am using a typical charger base / accessory holder as example:

Place the vac holder on a piece of say 10mm plywood.

About that size and drill pilot holes.

With assistance align everything and screw the holder into the plywood pilot holes.

Im actually going to suggest to mount the vacuum charger outside the cupboard. With all the various battery chargers overheating (and no, not all but it hangs in my mind) I am hesitant about storing any chargers where I cant keep an eye on them.

Could you mount it on the left hand outside wall of the cabinet? you could drill a hole through the cabinet so the power cable can still be plugged in and thge excess cable can be kept out of site?

I actually charge my batteries for my powertools in the kitchen, when they are charged I store them on top of the bench in the laundry. I do think its being overcautious but id rather be safe then burn marks.
