How to refresh greyed treated pine?

I have collected a number of weathered treated pine beams (picture 1). I am wanting to make some garden arches out of them (picture 2). I would like to bring them back to a nice brown colour, and maintain this colour going forwards. What is the process to bring the weathered grey posts back to a nice brown colour and how do I look after them to stop them going grey in the future once they are in place in the garden?

Hi @lauravdh,

The first step is to give the beams a thorough clean with something like Feast Watson Wood Clean and a stiff-bristle brush. This will remove surface dirt, grime, and some of the greyed fibres, refreshing the timber and helping it absorb any finish more evenly.

Once the timber is clean and dry, you can apply an exterior timber stain or oil with a tint that matches the brown colour you’re aiming for. This will provide a rich colour while still allowing the timber to breathe. To maintain that colour and protect the timber from greying again, plan on reapplying a coat of oil once a year or every two years, depending on the exposure, to keep the timber nourished and shielded from the elements.
