How to fix the water pooling issues caused due to rain?

Hi Everyone,

I would like to temporarily address below two issues until I get concreting done next month (mid/end).

1. There's brick paver in the back of the house. When it rains water gets pooled/puddled at a particular area. Water flows in from two sides (as shown in the picture) and there's no surface slope for water to move.

2. The gap gets filled with excess water when it rains. I would want this gap and let water flow down through the carport.

Maybe lay down weighted tarps to redirect the water somewhere else.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Short term, there's not a huge amount you can do because drainage issues are usually managed with pipes and drainage channels, which would be impractical considering your future plans.

@AlanM52's idea of laying down tarps could be an option.

Another thought was to remove a paver or two where the worst of the pooling happens and replace them with some drainage gravel in the hope that the water drains through to the soil faster.

The only other thing I could think of is to use an outdoor broom or floor squeegee to move the water along when it pools.

You could also fill the gap in your carport with some mortar to help the water flow over it and through the carport. As mortar is porous, some water would still soak into it, but it should help a bit.

Long term, properly graded concrete, with drainage channels that are plumbed to your stormwater pipes will be the best solution.
