How to rejuvenate timber floorboards?

I found this post and wondering if these products would work on the floorboards in photos

Hi @Trudjef,

This method would work well to remove scuff marks and light wear on the surface of the floorboards and then add a light waxy coating from the polish, but it is not going to remove deeper gouges and damage.

There are some areas of damage that I can see in the second image that look a bit more severe that might not be removed using these products.

In saying this, I think it is certainly worth a try as the alternative is sanding everything back and then reapplying a sealer.

Thanks so much for your support and quick response. This workshop group is a great idea!
We will definitely go with this process. Just wondering what the time line of doing this is and steps, could it be completed in a day given it is a fairly small area ?
Do we clean the floors with anything else first, and what applicator do we put the polish etc on with. Thinking Bunnings would have all we need but wondering if readily available or need to be ordered?
And then how long till you can walk on the floor.
Sorry lots of questions but trying organise around the moving in process and furniture delivery etc

Glad to hear you are happy with Bunnings Workshop. It really is a wonderful community of helpful people, and we are happy to have you with us.

There's no need to clean the floors with anything else; just give them a good sweep or vacuum to remove dirt and dust, then use a standard floor mop, mop the floors with Cabot's Floor Clean, and then allow it to dry.

Once dry, the Cabot's Floor Polish should be applied neat with a sponge mop or decking oil applicator, ensuring bubbles aren't introduced, and the polish is not allowed to pool. These are readily available products; there's no need to order anything.

After application, the polish should be allowed to dry for an hour. At this point, you can either add a second coat to increase the gloss level or leave it as is. If you add a second coat, the drying time of an hour would be the same.

we now have the keys to our little unit and found this spot. Thinking of just lightly sanding to blend / smooth rough edges of these 4 spots and then do the cleaning and polish process?
Not ideal I’m sure. But it will be covered by the lounge

Hi @Trudjef,

Ultimately, your flooring and coating are severely degraded, and the floor needs to be sanded and resealed. So, unless you're going to be doing that, you can certainly try to improve the look of this area by sanding and using the above products. However, the above products are designed for rejuvenating a dull floor that is still in good condition. Your floor is past that point, and it would be best to sand and recoat.

We can’t afford to do the whole floor sanded and re done , it’s kind of the rejuvenation or nothing, sadly.

I think we’ll still go with this method as suggested initially, and as it’s only this tiny area and the majority of floor is okay as in first photos.
