hi there, I have this fireplace, the chimney has been taken out and there was an old gas heater installed. I would like to replace the damaged vertical bricks, which I presume form a lintel, and then take out the bricks that were later inserted (see pic). Also please note that there is a steel lintel under the more recently installed bricks and a bar under the vertical bricks. My question is, would it work to replace the vertical bricks carefully 3-4 at a time, and then remove the newer ones? The brickwork seems pretty solid and I’m guessing the newer bricks were just put there for the gas heater, but I don’t want it to collapse! Cheers, Greg
