Hi,
I am looking to create a stone cladded feature wall in my living room. However, the wall is made out of brick which has "dry wall". What steps should I take to install stone cladding on it.
Hi @sujoy_kb,
In Australia and New Zealand, what you’re calling “drywall” is usually plasterboard, which is a gypsum-based panel attached to the brick wall. Installing stone cladding directly onto plasterboard typically isn’t recommended because the board won’t support the weight. You’ll first need to attach a suitable backing or frame to carry the load of the cladding, or remove the plasterboard and install the stone cladding directly onto the brickwork.
If you can clarify exactly what’s covering your brick and whether it’s plasterboard panels, a thin render, or something else, it will be easier to provide detailed steps. Generally, the process involves ensuring the wall is strong enough to carry the cladding, applying the correct adhesive and adhering the cladding.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Many thanks for your question.
Could you please provide some photos of your wall so members can see what you are working with? It would also be helpful if you could please share details of the exact cladding product you are planning to use. Typically the manufacturer will specify what attachment methods to use.
Thanks again,
Jason
