How to cut standard size external door?

Hi Bunnings Team,

I've recently bought this external door from Bunnings https://www.bunnings.com.au/hume-2040-x-870-x-35mm-external-door-spm-flush-x1_p1972117, however, the door frame I'm replacing with is not standard size which is 860mm.

A trade doing other things at my house mentioned that some doors are empty inside so it can't be cut. May I please understand from the team or the manufacturer is this door could be cut by 10mm wide from either side?

Hi @JohnsonZ there should be a sticker on the side of the door noting how much can be trimmed off, the below was on an internal door I recently fitted but I think all Hume doors state the same - maximum 3mm off each side. Any more than that could void any warranty and/or affect its structure.

For most standard external doors, such as the one you’ve purchased, it’s generally not recommended to cut more than a few millimetres (3mm), especially on hollow-core or honeycomb doors like yours. This could affect the door’s structural integrity, its ability to hang properly, and even its weatherproofing.

For a door that needs to be reduced by 10 mm in width, the safest approach is to either order a door in the correct size or check with our Special Order team in-store if a custom-width option is available. If it’s a solid timber door, small adjustments might be possible with careful trimming, but with a hollow or composite external door, I would not attempt to cut it yourself.
