What weather proof outdoor screening?

Any ideas for screening that is weather proof? I have a side verandah/open carport that gets the afternoon sun and rain. I would like park my car there so need something that will stop the rain and also sun. I would prefer something solid that I could put between my existing verandah posts. Not a good photo but the space is the edge of the concrete is where the existing roof ends and would like to have something there to protect the car

Can I trouble you to upload some photos of the location you're hoping to install your screening? It would greatly help us to understand the space and offer recommendations.

How far apart are the posts?

I am assuming, based on prior experience, that the posts are likely somewhere around 2.4m apart, which is not ideal for any kind of solid screening or cladding, and it would likely require you to install additional framing. It is certainly possible, but it would require additional work, and I'd need to see what you've got in order to recommend a solution.

A simple option might be to install some of these Bistro Blinds 210 x 240cm 0.75mm Charcoal PVC Outdoor Blind, which are great for keeping out the rain, and being tinted, they will also do a great job reducing the UV passing through.

Hi @rmjaln,

To create something truly weatherproof, you would need to use the same materials that are used for cladding homes, such as weatherboards or fibre cement cladding. Are these more like what you were thinking of?

For these claddings to be a viable option, you would need to build a timber stud frame between the posts, with the framing being in line with the fixing requirements for your chosen cladding. For example, something like a weatherboard has a maximum stud spacing of 600mm, so you would need to construct a stud wall between the posts with studs at no more than 600mm centres. You might like to check out How To Build a Stud Wall for some guidance on stud wall construction.

Does Bunnings have slats similar to the timber like slats we have that face the pool. From memory they are a Stratco product made from Aluminium. I know that would not be totally weather proof, but just looking at different options at the moment

We have a range of aluminium screening from our supplier ProtectorAl.

Due to limitations in terms of width, you may have to install an additional mid-span post. If so, they do produce bolt-down aluminium posts.
