Hi everyone,
I'm not sure if this is a DIY project I should be considering over the Christmas break, but I am wanting to relay a section of my paver driveway and rebed it as it has started to walk in the opposite direction to the way we turn out onto the road. The current driveway pavers don't have any edge restraint, which has left me confused on how it has taken nearly 10 years for the pavers to begin to move quite significantly. I assume the original jointing sand has finally been flushed out by some recent big QLD storms.
The current pavers sit on a poured concrete slab. In the photo where I have removed the brick, you can see the slab directly beneath it without any bedding or adhesive. The only pavers that are adhered to the concrete are on the raised section up near the garage. Would using a 3-1 cement sand mix to bond the edge pavers to the concrete base be enough to hold the load of vehicles coming in and out? It’d have to be a thin application as I don’t want the edges to be noticeably more raise than the middle pavers. I'd broom a fine sand between the pavers to help with cancelling out any movement. Or should I also lay down a thin layer of bedding sand to help with drainage as well?
I've looked into edging options, but our grass has sunken on either side of the of the driveway. In the attached photos, ours is the driveway with the tree. I would only want to haunch the pavers if I can hide it. I can potentially cut the lawn into sections and lift the sod, fill to level with top dress and drop the turf back down on top but this is only if I have to. I plan on leveling the lawn in the future but I am short on money and time, and the driveway is actively falling away. I've attached a photo of our neighbours driveway (sorry neighbours) to show what I am trying to avoid with the visible edging. It scares me.
We don't have any MR or HR vehicles, just regular cars.
Happy to hear any suggestions! Thank you very much.
