What filler for door frame side?

What product would be the best to fill out the old cut out on a door frame. I’m putting a new handle and strike plate which is a different profile to the old. Timber mate products aren’t really grate as they crack over time. What is a product that’s strong enough to endure a door closing over the years and will fill the old gaps. I’ll be painting over this so doesn’t need to match the wood.

I propose cutting some pine timber that will fit into the cut-out rebates of the door. I suggest using Selleys 350g Heavy Duty Liquid Nails in combination with standard timber screws. Make sure to drill pilot holes to prevent splitting the timber filler. Once the adhesive cures, I suggest surface filling the door with Turbo 500ml Builder's Bog. My best advice is to not add too much activator so that you have time to mould and flatten the bog into shape. Your goal is to produce a fill that matches the surface level of the door frame so that you don't have to sand off a great deal of bog filler.

I realise the photo wasn’t super clear what I was asking. I’ve since put the new striker plate on. So now you can see the parts I need to fill. Sol behind the striker plate is a gap as well.

Thank you for sharing the extra picture and information. I suggest removing the first step in my suggestion and just using Builder's Bog to cover the bottom rebate and the sections that are uneven. There is no need to cover up the extra holes as they will be used for your new door. But in order to fill in the uneven sections the Builder's Bog will do nicely.

I thought you were refering to the existing holes in the dooras well 🙂

I havnt had any hassel with timbermate products over the years but builders bog is also a good one.

If those empty spots (even under a striker plate) wont be used I would still be tempted to cut a piece of timber to fit and then glue it in, builders bog around it and sand. Just to keep vibrations/ solidness in tact (Though I do admit its not neccasary, just wanted)

This is a project I do quite regularly. Your best structural product will builders bog here which you can shape to the same profile as it cures. The only issue is that this and any other filler product will result in not being able to maintain a timber look finish as you have now without looking like a patch job. This means priming and painting the door frame.

As the bog starts to go off use a sharp 25mm chisel to shave off the excess big which will save lots of sanding which is quite difficult once fully set. Any cheapo new chisel will do nicely.

Once cured you can then treat the frame as new and can cut in you new striker plate/s
