How to treat browning Magnolia Teddys?

Hello All,

I have some Magnolia teddys throughout my gardens, however they arent looking too healthy and I'm not too sure why!

They are positioned outdoors, with sun most of the day and shade part of the day. Other plants in the same garden bed seem to go alright. It is mostly browning and dying leaves.

Any advice on why they would be like this and what I can do would be greatly appreciated!

How many seasons have your plants been in the ground? Being positioned directly in front of a steel Colorbond fence can expose them to significant reflected heat, which can cause stress. If this is their first season in the garden, it’s quite possible they’re suffering from heat stress. You could try placing some shade cloth between the fence and the plants, or provide some shade during the hottest part of the day. Increasing your watering frequency may also help them cope with the heat. Apart from that, it would be helpful to know a bit more about your care routine: How often you’re watering, how long they’ve been planted, and whether you fertilise them? Our members would then be able to give more targeted advice.

At this stage, the browned, frazzled leaves strongly suggest that heat and sunburn are the main issues.

Hi Mitchell,

Thanks for the feedback.

It is their first season in the garden, probably planted around april last year. They get watered twice weekly with the reticulation, are fertilised approx every 2 months with seasol.

I thought it may be heat stress however I have also been told that they dont like to be overwatered so I am a bit careful not to go too far with the watering. I may have to try the shade cloth against the fence.
