How to build wall between verandahs?

I want to fill the gap in this wall - which is a wall between adjoining verandahs. I need to block the excessive light and glare, and reduce noise from the adjoining verandah.

I have noted possible solutions using rendered panels or cement sheeting etc. 

Are there any other possible solutions?
What do these options involve, who can do the work (I am not handy at all) and what are the probable costs?

What you’re looking to do with blocking light, glare, and reducing noise can be approached in a few different ways, but it’s important to separate the two goals. Blocking light and glare is relatively straightforward. You have options ranging from decorative screens, timber or composite panelling, or cement sheets. Any of these will significantly reduce the light coming through and give you more privacy.

Reducing noise, however, is a bit more involved. Noise travels differently, so to make a noticeable difference you need something solid. A simple panel may reduce some direct noise, but for more effective sound reduction you’d likely need a framed stud wall with insulation inside, then clad it with cement sheeting or another dense material. This creates a solid barrier to help block the sound. Keep in mind, though, that sound can still travel around the outside edges, so you won’t get complete soundproofing.

Because this is a shared or adjoining wall, it’s really important to check with your neighbour and any relevant body corporate or apartment complex rules before proceeding. If you build entirely on your side of the wall, it’s usually less of an issue, but anything permanent or altering the structure of the shared wall may require permission.

As for costs, it’s hard to give a precise number. It depends on the type of material, the size of the wall, and the tradesperson you hire. The best approach is to get a few quotes from carpenters or builders, discuss your goals for light and noise reduction, and see what options they recommend and are comfortable installing. This way you’ll get a solution that works both practically and within any rules for the property.
