What weather flashing above door exterior?

Hi all,

I have been searching the web up and down for products and or ideas for a flashing or angle to put above exterior doors that will act as a rain guard/rain diverter/water channel etc.

I have glass sliding doors that leaked at the very top of the frame in a recent storm due to gutter overflows and the wind making it rain sideways. One is approx 2.2m and the other 2.4m which are installed into rendered/brick.

I saw that Bunnings sells the 1mx50x50 colourbond angle flashing but I don’t think the length is sufficient.

Any ideas would be amazing. Photo attached.

The best example I can find of what you would use over a door is this Steel Window Flashing Type A 38 x 75 x 1800mm ZINCALUME steel or this Steel Window Flashing Type C 75 x 113 x 1800mm ZINCALUME steel, which both look like below, just slightly different in size.

The main thing your flashing needs is that rolled bottom edge, which is referred to as a drip edge. The water will hit the flashing, then run either sideways to the outside of the door, where it will run down the wall, or it will run across the flashing to the drip edge, which stops the water from rounding the edge and tracking back towards the wall, instead causing it to form into droplets which will fall in front of the door.

You would install the flashing above the door, with suitable fixings at no more than 500mm spacings. You would then seal the top edge of the flashing and any screw holes with silicone to prevent water from getting in behind it. 

I'm not 100% certain that these specific flashings are stocked Australia-wide, but they certainly are in Brisbane, where I am. If you can advise roughly where you are located, I could certainly have a look for you. Otherwise, our supplier for flashings and roofing products, LYSAGHT should have a similar flashing option in your area. If there is nothing showing as in stock, I am sure that the Special Orders team at your local store could assist you with ordering a similar style of flashing.
