How to repair a ceiling?

I’m looking for advice on repairing this corner section of the ceiling.

 

The ceiling and cornice have parted company with the wall due to a plant hanging from a toggle bolt in the ceiling, instead of a hook being screwed into the ceiling beam.

 

I’m in W.A. A double brick house, inside walls rendered with Colourbond roof.

Thank you for the thorough description of the damage. Does it mean that if you were to push that corner upwards the gap between the cornice and wall would disappear or become very small? If so, is there a timber ceiling stud close by where you could screw the ceiling back into the wood frame? If there is not, I propose drilling a hole in the cornice that will allow you to screw the ceiling panel back into place and reducing the giant gap between the wall and the cornice.  

Another option is to use Selleys 420g Liquid Nails Fast Grab Strong Adhesive on the back of the cornice and stick it onto the wall in combination with nails or screws to hold it in place. The nails and screws can be overdriven and the tops covered with plaster filler.
