Hello,
Does anyone know how to set up a remote sprinkler where I can control remotely when I travel around the world?
Hi @buyurownflowers,
Holman WX1 Tap Timer And Wi-Fi Hub
Cheers
Hello @buyurownflowers
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about setting up a remote sprinkler.
Would it be possible for you to sketch up the layout of your garden area with measurements included? Can you also please include the location of your garden tap? In order to save on water, I suggest having a look at installing a drip irrigation system instead. I suggest having a look at this guide - How to install a drip irrigation watering system by @Adam_W. This will give you a general idea of how to set up your irrigation set.
Here are some discussions that will help:
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hello Alan,
how would the wifi connected turn the tap for the time scheduled?
I thought there should have been manually turned on?
thanks,
aylie
Hi Eric,
I have just 2x3X3 front and back small yard/garden.
Thank you for your comment.
Aylie
In an automated system, the tap always remains on, and the flow is controlled by the timing unit, which is connected to it. In the case of the Holman WX1 Tap Timer and Wi-Fi Hub, which Alan mentioned, it allows water to flow from the tap to the irrigation system during your set times. The timer can be accessed via the Wi-Fi hub in the Holman app on your phone, anywhere in the world with Wi-Fi.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
CC: @buyurownflowers,
I always use and when helping others recommend garden hose crimped connections and that also applies to controllers that have burst detection.
Hello MitchellMc,
Aw … that truly explains. So I will turn the tap on but it won’t water flow it to the device. Only when the timer runs for the set schedule.
Correct me if I am wrong.
I will try to buy one this week and try one ☝️
Thank you so much for your valuable comment 🙏
Hi MitchellMc,
Shall I buy the automated tap 🚰 and change the one I had.
In other words I will need to call a plumber to do so.
cheers,
On the condition that you have a standard garden tap with a 20mm outlet the timer will fit easily and there is no need to change garden taps. If you wish to access the tap with the timber will attached, I suggest installing a Pope 2 Way Brass Threaded Tap. This allows the timer to be attached along with a standard garden hose.
Hi EricL,
I will send you the photos of my tap and so you know if that would be fitted to the automated remote sprinkler.
Again, thank you 🙏
We look forward to seeing the pictures.
CC: @MitchellMc, @EricL,
Hello Aylie... You do not need to buy an 'automated tap' to replace your existing garden tap. We are discussing a suitable automated watering device that simply connects to your existing garden tap.
No need to replace the current tap @buyurownflowers. The Holman WX1 Tap Timer and Wi-Fi Hub simply attaches to it. From there, you can add your irrigation pipes and sprinklers, which you can control.
Good morning EricL,
Please find my tap photos.
Let me know if it work or I need to replace an automated tap.
Good morning MitchellMc,
Thank you for reaching out.
Question from me:
How do I
there is no photo of integrated power socket in the adds.
I am not so tech savvy. Please let me know.
I also attach my tap pictures for your reference.
Cheers,
Thanks for the images @buyurownflowers. The automated tap timer will connect directly to your current tap. No need to replace the tap.
Thank you.
I will make sure that come to Bunning and check that out.
Do you have any recommendation for the hose sprinkler that connect to the tap? Considering about 2-5 metre away from the tap?
Unless you want to go to the effort of installing a full irrigation system @buyurownflowers, which can get quite fiddly when you have lots of individual pots, the simplest and most reliable option would be a soaker hose. A soaker hose connects directly to your tap timer and can be laid out across the tops of your pots in straight runs, or looped through the garden bed at the front. While it isn’t highly targeted to each individual plant, it’s by far the easiest system to install and manage, especially if you’re heading overseas and want something low-fuss.
You’d simply roll the hose out where you want the water to go, connect it to the tap or timer, and secure it in place. Running it for around 10 to 15 minutes per cycle is usually enough to give pots a good soak, depending on your soil mix and weather. Before you leave, it’s a good idea to test it a few times to make sure all pots and beds are being reached evenly.
The alternative is a full drip irrigation setup with poly pipe and individual drippers to each pot, but that does take more planning, parts, and installation time. For your situation, a soaker hose is likely the most practical and stress-free solution.
Hello @buyurownflowers,
Aylie,
Do you have a Internet connection with a home wi-fi network?
Regards
Hi AlanM52,
Yes.
The Holman soaker hose would be fitted the Holman system but they are too long for the length of the distance at home.
Do you have alternative?
Above, you've mentioned 2-5m. The minimum soaker hose is 7.5m. I would just loop it around if it's a bit long. You likely won't find a hose that matches your exact length unless you plan to install a full irrigation system.
From your picture, it looks like you would need at least 7m to run the hose around the garden bed. In the second image, with the pots, the length appears to be approximately 2m on one side and 5m on the other. I'd run the 7.5m hose down one side and then along the other.
If you did want to create a purpose-built irrigation system, here's a helpful guide: How to install an irrigation system.
I had put it on the basket to order. It’s a pipe brand not the Holman. I hope it will fit.
Thank you,
The Pope brand fits the Holman timer @buyurownflowers. Bear in mind that you need a short length of hose to run from the timber to the soaker hose.
I watched the video of the Pope soak hose and it said that it would connect directly to the tap.
Let me know the short connecting hose I need to buy.
Also, I hardly believe that I need to turn the tap on without water coming out of the Holman system and run by the wifi. it really sounds magical to me.
OK,
Looks like you will need someone to setup everything and they should also be familiar with garden watering/irrigation systems.
I suggest finding a place near you that offers:
Google AI (Edited) Places selling water tanks and irrigation supplies are commonly called Water Tank Suppliers and Irrigation Stores.
In the video @buyurownflowers, they show them connecting the soaker hose to a standard garden hose. It is this garden hose that is connected to the timer you'll be using. This hose would suit, or you could use your normal garden hose.
It is a bit like magic. The Holman timer has its own tap valve inside it. When the programmed time arrives, it opens its own little valve inside to let the water flow. You can also operate this internal tap in the timer with your phone. Because of this internal valve in the timer, your garden tap can remain on 24/7, and water only comes out of it when the timer allows.
Any link for the connecting short hose that fit both the Holman hose and the pipe hose?
Heaps thanks,
My garden hose is the one I bought from Bunning the 20 m retractable hose reel one. I don’t know if it can connect to the Holman and the pope hose.
Yeah just wondering they are so advanced. I meant once I connect the Holman hose to the tap and open the tap without water coming out. It must have been a strong guarded valve of Holman.
Any garden hose will connect to the weeper hoses as long as it has a clip-on connector like this Pope 12mm Comfort Grip Hose Connector. If your existing hose has this, then you could still use it; it would just be rather long.
Alternatively, the following hoses are designed for connecting taps to hose reels and weeper hoses alike -
Let me know if you have any further questions.
