How to conceal gaps between wall & cornice?

Hello, we just had our ceiling replaced, and now are left with a gap between the existing wall and newly mounted cornice. See attached pictures. What would be the best solution/products to patch it up to best match the existing wall? Once that is fixed we are intending to repaint the wall.

For gaps like this, the key is to tackle both the wall damage and the gap itself in stages. First, repair any damage to the wall coating. Since it’s likely hardwall plaster over brick, patch up the damaged areas so the surface is solid and as close to the edge of the cornice as possible. This helps minimise the size of the gap you’ll need to fill later.

Next, you can pack hardwall plaster up under the cornice to bridge the remaining gap. Apply it carefully and don’t overfill or press it too tightly; just enough so it meets the edge of the cornice. Once it has set, sand the area smooth and apply a primer before painting to get a uniform finish. A small trowel will help you push the plaster into position.

If there’s still a small gap after this, you can finish off by running a bead of caulked gap filler along the joint between the wall and cornice. The same type of filler works well for any cornice corners or internal joints that need a clean, seamless look. This two-step approach, with plaster first, then gap filler, gives the neatest and most durable result.
